Activities & Attractions

The location is ideal for those who enjoy the outdoor life. Within easy striking distance of Perth-y-Pia lie the challenging peaks of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, one of the most elaborate cave systems in Europe, and the beautiful fishing and canoeing waters of the Rivers Wye and Usk. The area is also a haven for nature lovers. The rich variety of landforms has given rise to a number of valuable habitats, several of which have been designated National Nature Reserves.

We are able to recommend a wide range of outdoor pursuits using local experienced and qualified instructors.

Activities in the area include walking, orienteering, cycling and mountain biking, caving, pony trekking, canoeing, abseiling, climbing and fishing.

Walking: local maps can be purchased from Crickhowell Adventure Gear or the Cric building in Crickhowell. There are also walking guides available from both these shops. 

Orienteering: There is a course at Garwnant Forestry Centre or you can arrange for a course to be set up for you.

Cycling and Mountain Biking: There are miles of quiet lanes in the area and some fantastic mountain biking routes in the mountains. A number of mountain biking routes start in and around Llanbedr, visit http://www.mtbbreconbeacons.co.uk/ for more information.  Cwn Carn, under 1 hour’s drive away has a purpose built mountain biking and downhill course.

Caving: There are a number of caves on the nearby Llangattock escarpment and some exciting caves to explore elsewhere in the National Park.

Pony Trekking: There are miles of bridleways throughout the national parks and most centres will cater for different abilities of rider.

Canoeing: There are the quiet waters of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal close at hand, and the beautiful Usk and Wye to explore.

Abseiling/Climbing: The nearest crags are 5 miles away on Llangattock escarpment. 15 miles away is a superb indoor climbing wall ideal for groups which also has a high ropes course and you can even zip wire down the mountain.

Mountain Running: Guided running through the Brecon Beacons. Experience the exhilaration and freedom of mountain running along routes selected for your ability.
